HistoryFor almost a thousand years, Germany was part of the Holy Roman Empire. From 1806 to 1815, Germany was under France's control. In 1815, Russia, Prussia, France and the Habsburgs competed for dominance in the German states which resulted in the Napoleonic Wars. in 1884, Germany took a imperialistic way which caused trouble with countries neighboring them. Otto von Bismarck who was in charge of German and European affairs thought a dual alliance between Austria-Hungary and Germany would be best to prevent war. So in October 1879, Germany and Austria-Hungary created a dual alliance. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand triggered World War I. Four years later, Germany accepted their defeat by the Allies. In November 1918, Germany was declared a republic. Germans saw the Treaty of Versailles as humiliating which influenced the rise of Adolf Hitler.

WarAfter Germany surrendered in 1945, Germany was split into four different military occupation zones. West sections was controlled by the U.S, U.K, and France The soviet union controlled East Germany. in 1961, the Berlin wall was created splitting Germany to West Germany and East Germany. This prevented East Germans from escaping to West Germany.

NowIn 1989, the East German government allowed East Germans to visit West Germany. In September 1990, Germany regained authority. This allowed German reunification. Berlin became the capital of the reunited Germany in 1994. In 1993, Germany became the co-founder of the European Union and introduced the Euro currency in 2002.
